Real Estate Tips from Bob Rich-Take Nothing for Granted

The old adage “know what you’re buying” is particularly true when applied to the major and complex business of buying a house. Don’t take even the smallest detail for granted. Have it stipulated in writing. Buying from a builder? What exactly is the builder going to supply and install? Remember that a display home may have extras not included in the standard model. When you’re buying a resale house get a written list of what is to remain as part of the deal.
It might help—to make sure the transaction is fully clarified—to have a separate itemized list describing what the purchase price includes attached to your offer to purchase a property. The list of extras should specify whether each item is to be the original or a substitution.
Look beyond the usual extras such as carpeting, draperies, light fixtures and appliances to less obvious items such as clotheslines, shower curtains, storm windows, screen doors and garden tools.
